THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR qEEG BRAIN MAP
• Choose a time of day for your appointment when you are likely to be your most rested and alert.
• Clean, DRY hair. Shampoo your hair the night before or the morning of the appointment. IMPORTANT: DO NOT put ANY products in your hair, including conditioner, hairspray, mousse or gel. Hair products can interfere with the function of the sensors in the qEEG cap.
• Limit your caffeine and alcohol consumption for 24 hours prior to your appointment. Avoid THC use 3 days prior to appointment.
• Bring a list of current medications with you.
• Be prepared for messy hair when you are finished. There will be left-over water-soluble gel in your hair. You may want to bring a hat!
• Plan to keep your mobile phone turned off during the mapping process.
Brain mapping facilitates a better understanding of your brain function. After an injury or accident, your physician may use an X-Ray to see what is happening to your bones and determine the course of treatment. At Minds Matter, we use brain mapping to see what is happening in your brain, and how best to help you meet your challenges.
You are unique, and so is the electrical activity in your brain. Using brain mapping, we are able to create a customized therapy protocol to help you. The brain map pinpoints areas where you have difficulty, and we can tailor the treatment plan just for you. We also use an ECG information to help us determine how your heart/nervous system are working with your brain. This information enables us to see what is working and what to change. As a result, we can create a treatment plan that is the most effective for your brain.
The brain map provides proof and validation that the struggles you are experiencing originate in your brain. When many of our clients first start treatment, there is always a nagging feeling that what they are experiencing is “all in their head.” Brain mapping shows once and for all that what you are experiencing is very real and caused by changes in your brain as well as how your nervous system and heart work with your brain when you are completing cognitive tasks.
While the treatment we provide is based on the symptoms you report and cognitive-communication evaluation, brain mapping can help match the treatment to your needs and your unique brain activity, enabling faster and deeper improvements.
What should I expect with a brain map?
The entire process takes about an hour and a half from start to finish. All you need to do is sit in a chair. We will start with a questionnaire and gather history and information that will help us create your care plan.
We will then place what looks like a swim cap on your head. There are 19 holes on the cap that will be filled with gel to help conduct the electrical impulses from your brain to our equipment that reads your brain waves. Bring a hat-your hair will get messy! You will then sit quietly for about 20 minutes while we gather the recording of your brain waves during various tasks.
How long does it takes to get results?
We will schedule a follow-up appointment with you in about one week following initial evaluation. We highly encourage bringing family or friends to this follow-up appointment, as we go over a lot of information. We also provide a print out of recommendations and images from the brain mapping. Together with your cognitive evaluation, we work together to create a roadmap for improving your brain health!
